Limited view
There are various systems that categorise people into different personality types. These types are typically based on how people like to work, think and communicate. Usually, the idea is that the ideal team has a selection of types. However, life isn’t that simple. Knowing how someone prefers to work is helpful but it is only a fraction of the whole story. People react and behave differently, depending on the situation and who they are with.
Any system that categorises a group just as individuals loses all the subtleties of how these individuals relate to each other. For example, someone might be creative as an individual but low self-confidence can lead a person to not promoting or even voicing a great idea because of the combination of their self-image and the greater self-confidence of the people around them.
And it isn’t just confidence: Experiences, both within and outside someone’s current working group and the previous teams they have been in, have a subtle but lasting influence on how someone approaches interactions with the people around them.
Understanding not categorizing.
RTTA workshops facilitate a conversation about behaviours and certain patterns in relationships. A simple model is used as a training tool to look at interpersonal interactions and relationships in a different way. The factors that drive people to behave the way they do with each other are very complex. To facilitate the understanding of the subtleties in interactions, participant provided examples are used in the training. This allows attendees to see how the principles fit into their own interpersonal relationships and teams.
This new understanding of the individuals and the relationships between them in teams is very powerful. The new point of view unlocks solutions that initially might seem counter intuitive. Problems within a team that might have appeared permanent become solvable. With our model, we provide a new eye-opening perspective which will allow attendees to optimise relationships both inside their team and outside thus improving interpersonal relationships and outcomes in all areas and increasing well being.
